What is LPIC?

Linux Professional Institute Certifications are the defacto Linux certification exams. The LPI Certification program is designed to certify the competency of system administration using the Linux operating system and its associated tools. It is designed to be distribution and vendor neutral, following the Linux Standards Base and other relevant standards and conventions used by the Free and Open Source Software community around the world.

What are the available examinations?

LPI Pakistan is offering all available LPI™ certification Exam Labs in English Language through both Computer Based Tests as well as Paper Based Tests:
  1. Level 1: Junior Level Linux Professional.
    Comprises of Exam Labs LPIC 101 & LPIC 102
  2. Level 2: Advanced Level Linux Professional.
    Comprises of Exam Labs LPIC 201 & LPIC 202
  3. Level 3: Senior Level Linux Professional.
    Comprises of Exam Labs LPIC 301 & LPIC 302
  4. Exam 199_EN: Ubuntu Certified Professional (Single Exam Lab)

When and where are CBT exams held (Computer Based Tests)?

You may sit for LPIC exams in any city in Pakistan including Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad through the following testing options:
- You can register for LPI exams through one of the many Pearson VUE testing centres in Pakistan. Once you have located a convenient Pearson VUE center, you may schedule to take an LPI exam by phone.
- You can register for LPI exams through one of the many Prometric testing centres in Pakistan. Once you have located a convenient Prometric center, you may schedule to take an LPI exam by phone.

When will be the PBT exam held (Paper Based Tests)?

LPI-Pakistan will be holding three PBT exam sittings in 2010 within Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad at pre-announced venues. The minimum seats for the exam are 40 and maximum 150. Kindly contact the us at operations(@)pakistan.lpi.org if you are interested in taking the exam.

How much does it cost?

*Note: Candidates in certain cases may pay the fees in Pakistani Rupees but the exchange rate will be announced prior to exams.
Level 1
The usual cost for LPIC Exam Labs are USD 160 per exam paper, LPI Pakistan will provide discounted Paper Based Tests for Level 1.
For example, if you are sitting for the LPIC 101 and LPIC 102 Exam Labs, your total cost for this level will be USD 320.
* LPI-Pakistan may occasionally offer discounted examinations over time according to availability of stock and examination budgets.
Level 2
This Exam Lab is being offered at its usual cost of USD 160 per exam paper. The total cost for LPIC 201 & LPIC 202 is US$320.
Level 3
Please note that the LPIC-3 exam is priced differently then all other exams--it is $260 for a single certification exam.
Exam 199_EN
The cost for the single paper LPI Exam Lab for the Ubuntu Certified Professional is US$160.(This is currently under revision for 2010)

How often are the examinations conducted?

Who conducts the Exam Labs?

LPI Pakistan conducts the Exam Labs with LATPs and partners throughout the country in various cities. A LPI Certified Proctor is present and invigilates all Exam Labs.

What do candidates need to bring for the exam?

The candidate need only bring along pencil(s) and eraser and possibly a pencil sharpener (in case he needs to sharpen his pencils) as pencils, erasers and sharpeners ARE NOT provided. Candidates are not allowed to bring in any writing paper to the exam hall, they can only bring in with them the pencils, erasers and sharpeners. (While pens are allowed they are not recommended as it is not easy to make corrections to the multiple
choice answers if a pen is used.)

What is the format of the exam?

Questions can be either multiple choice or "fill in the blanks" type. Candidates have to answer ALL questions on the answer sheet provided. The LPI website does provide examples of questions. See: http://www.lpi.org/en/lpi/english/certification/the_lpic_program

How do I register for the exam?

In order to appear for the exam you have to complete the following steps:
a. Register as a LPI Candidate and recieve an ID at:
http://www.lpi.org/en/lpi/english/certification/register_now
b. Once you have recieved your ID, kindly forward your complete NIC No, Name, Address, Contact Numbers and Email to exams@lpipakistan.org and further instructions will be issued including how to prepare for the exam and where to appear for the exam.

When will candidates be notified about their results?

The results will be emailed directly to the candidates by LPI (possibly within 4 weeks).
