Fully Funded PhD Programs, NUS

National University of Singapore (NUS) is a researchintensive university with a rising international reputation. The School of Computing at NUS offers PhD programs in both computer science and information systems. The School of Computing boasts a large faculty covering all major research areas in computer science and information systems.

The School of Computing enjoys strong funding support for its education and research programs from various agencies of the government of Singapore.

Financial Support for PhD Students
All full-time PhD students in SoC receive research scholarships that cover partial tuition fee and pay a monthly stipend of SGD2,000-2,300 (US$1,500-1,700). The stipend increases to SGD2,500-2,800 (US$1,900-2,100) after a student passes the PhD qualifying examination.
Outstanding students are eligible for the President’s Graduate Fellowship, which pays a monthly stipend of SGD3,000 (US$2,300). They are also eligible for fellowships from private organizations.
Students may also receive research assistantships and teaching assistantships that provide financial support in exchange for specific research and teaching duties performed.



Admission Requirements for the PhD Program
All applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Applicants (except for graduates from a major university in Singapore) are required to take the GRE. In addition, applicants whose undergraduate degrees are not in computer science, information systems, or a related discipline are required to take the GRE Computer Science subject test. Applicants for the PhD program in information systems may take the GMAT instead of the GRE. Graduates from Indian universities may take the GATE, instead of the GRE. Applicants whose medium of instruction for their undergraduate degrees is not English are required to take the TOEFL or IELTS.

• Online Application Form.
• Certified true copy of degree certificates (with English
Translation, if applicable).
• Certified true copy of transcripts (with English Translation,
if applicable).
• TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, GATE scores reports, if applicable.
• Personal statement

The personal statement should describe succinctly your reasons for applying to the proposed PhD program in the School of Computing, your preparation for the field of study, research interests, future career plans, and other aspects of your background and interests that may help us to evaluate your aptitude and motivation for graduate studies.

• Research proposal

The research proposal should describe in details the research topic that you intend to pursue if you are
admitted to the PhD program.

• Letters of recommendation

Recommendations from three academic referees are required for the application. Please use the referee report forms available online. The referees are asked to send to the applicants their reports in sealed envelopes whose openings bear their signatures.

• Copies of publications, if available.
• Other supporting documents (e.g., certificates of merit, awards, prizes, etc.).

Application Deadlines
Students are admitted to the PhD program twice per academic year in August and in January.
Applications are accepted year round and will be considered for the next nearest admission date.
