2012 PhD Position in Techno-economic Analysis of Wireless Infrastructure, Sweden

Eligibility:
Applicants must hold or be about to receive a MSc degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Economics or related areas. The candidate should have basic courses in Communication systems and Wireless Networks. Working experience or courses in regulation, market systems or marketing is an advantage. The candidate should have strong analytical skills and ability to combine knowledge from different areas in order to contribute to innovation of concepts, solutions, methods and models. Evaluation will be based on the scientific quality of the candidate in accordance with the needs of the research projects.

Scholarship Description: In order to design and analyze technical systems in a market and business context there is an increasing need to use techno-economic approaches. Technical aspects like network architecture, functionality, performance, capacity and cost are combined with market related aspects like regulation, business and revenue models, distribution of functionality and the value offered to end-users and service providers. The PhD student will contribute to the development of a tele-economic framework for the design and analysis of wireless infrastructure systems. This will then be applied in areas like deployment of high capacity-low cost mobile broadband systems, indoor and local area wireless Internet access and systems for machine-to machine communication.
