About New Zealand Development Scholarship

The purpose of the New Zealand Scholarship is for candidates to realize information and skills through post-graduate study in specific subject areas which will assist within the development of their home country. Awardees are needed to come to their home country for a minimum of 2 years when the completion of their scholarship to use these new skills and information in government, civil society, or non-public business organisations.

New Zealand Scholarship Provider

The New Zealand Scholarship are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s overseas aid and development programme. They are managed by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

New Zealand Scholarship Benefit

Successful applicants will have access to excellent academic knowledge in quality facilities.
The New Zealand Scholarship include financial support for tuition, living costs while in New Zealand, and airfares.
The partners of students are eligible for a work visa that allows them to live and work in New Zealand for the duration of their partner’s study.

General Eligibility Criteria For New Zealand Scholarship

To be eligible for New Zealand Scholarship, you must:

• be a citizen of an New Zealand Scholarship collaborating country (permanent residents don't seem to be eligible to apply)
• be residing in your country of citizenship, ideally for a minimum of 2 years before application
• not have citizenship or permanent residence standing of latest Zealand, Australia, or another developed country*
• not be married or engaged to be married to an individual who holds, or who is eligible to carry, citizenship or permanent residence of latest Zealand, Australia or another developed country
• be aged seventeen or over before the New Zealand Scholarship begin date
• be applying to begin a replacement qualification and not be seeking funding for a qualification already in progress in New Zealand or another country†
• not have completed, or nearly completed, a qualification at an identical level (i.e. candidates should apply for a better level qualification than any previously attained), unless sturdy developmental relevance is demonstrated
• satisfy the admission necessities of the New Zealand education establishment
• be able to demonstrate a robust commitment to the relevant sector in your home country, and to your country’s development normally
• be able to ta up the New Zealand Scholarship within the tutorial year that it's offered.

* A developed country is outlined as a rustic not included on the OECD’s Development help Committee’s list of aid recipients.
† Students won't be funded to continue a qualification they need started outside their home country. The funding of qualifications being studied within the home country by self-sponsored, part-time students are going to be thought of on a case-by-case basis.

Exclusion

• are finding out full-time at post-secondary level
• are transferring from another tertiary scholarship (either in New Zealand or in another country) to a replacement Zealand Scholarship
• hold, or have held, a replacement Zealand Government or Australian Government scholarship within the twenty four months preceding the scholarship begin date, or are terminated from a replacement Zealand or Australian Government scholarship previously.

  

If offered a New Zealand Scholarship, you must:

• be able to satisfy Immigration New Zealand requirements for international student entry to New Zealand (i.e. medical checks, police clearances/character checks, etc.)
• not hold another scholarship during the period of the New Zealand Scholarship
• agree in writing that you will return to their home country for a minimum period of two years following completion of their New Zealand Scholarship in order to contribute to their country’s social or economic development.

English language requirements

• All New Zealand Scholarship applicants should check the IELTS (International English Language Testing System, academic stream) or TOEFL (Testing of English as a Foreign Language) score required for admission to their selected New Zealand education institution. As a guide, most New Zealand education institutions require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0, for postgraduate level study.
• Candidates of New Zealand Scholarship must provide the original copy of their IELTS or TOEFL exam result as a pre-condition of placement. Results must be no older than 24 months at the time of the scholarship start date.
• Candidates of New Zealand Scholarship who show particularly strong developmental relevance and applicability may be able to receive three months’ English language training in New Zealand prior to starting their main academic qualification. Candidates with IELTS of 6.0 overall, with no band less than 5.5, should therefore still consider applying.

We are seeking a PhD student to become part of the Infection Microbiology Group in the Department of Systems Biology at the Technical University of Denmark.

Job descriptionThe successful candidate will be working on a project concerning characterization of gene regulatory proteins in clinical isolates of infecting bacteria. The position is part of a team of scientists working with long-term infection of bacteria in human airways.?A key objective of the PhD project is to investigate mutations in gene regulatory proteins and determine their effects on protein functionality/activity. Denmark : Postdocs in Modelling of IT Systems

Two postdoc positions are available at DTU Informatics in the Language Based Technology Section. The activities of the department spans from computer science to applied mathematics and the activities of the Language Based Technology section focuses on modelling, analysis and realisation of IT Systems.

The MT-LAB postdoc position is available from July 1’st 2012 until October 31’st 2013. It is funded by MT-LAB (see www.MT-LAB.dk), a VKR Centre of Excellence, focusing on the Modelling of IT Systems. The postdoc will work on developing a language that would combine traditional imperative, functional or concurrent language constructs with declarative specifications of a numerical and logical kind, with the ability to specify optimization goals and uncertainty degree for the events. Solution methods and tool support for the language should be developed as well. The application domain is a user interface to Smart Meters but other domains (transportation, hospital systems) are envisioned as well.

The IDEA4CPS post doc position is available from July 1’st 2012 until March 31’st 2014. It is funded by IDEA4CPS (see www.IDEA4CPS.dk) awarded by the Danish Foundation for Basic Research. The postdoc should investigate the use of model checking to provide designers with information about the Pareto frontier between security and energy constraints, develop a stochastic approach to modelling security where the stochastic delays can be accurately modelled, and advancing the state-of-the-art on security assessment techniques towards integrated methods in which energy-harvesting networks will be considered explicitly.

The applicant should clearly indicate which position he or she is applying for and should explain their background for performing the work described as well as document their qualifications as listed below.

QualificationsCandidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

The MT-LAB applicant needs to document knowledge in constraint programming and constraint solving methods (for example, Z3 solver). Knowledge in language design and the application domains would be preferable.

The IDEA4CPS applicant needs to document knowledge in the area of security of cyber-physical systems, from the perspective of verification, and skills in quantitative analysis approaches, amenable to automation, with specific interest in methodologies such as probabilistic model checking.

Denmark : PhD Scholarship within Synthetic Chemistry

A PhD scholarship is available within synthetic chemistry in relation to research in new biomaterials. The project is a collaboration between the Technical University of Denmark (Department of Micro and Nanotechnology), Bispebjerg Hospital, Rigshospitalet, and the biotech company 2cureX. The purpose of the project is to develop a novel screening system for early selection of the most efficient medical treatment for individual patients with colorectal cancer. The PhD project will take place at the Technical University of Denmark, Department of Micro and Nanotechnology.

The PhD project involves organic synthesis of new biomaterials that can act as controlled drug release systems in a diagnostic device that is under development in a cross-disciplinary project. The focus is on how to control the surface chemistry of nanoparticle systems based on lipids and polymers and on functionalizing biomaterials with bioactive molecules. Characterization of the biomaterials is also an important part of the project.

The starting date is as soon as possible.

The PhD student will be a part of the Colloids and Biological Interface group at the Department of Micro and Nanotechnology.

QualificationsThe ideal applicant should hold a Master of Science in synthetic organic chemistry or, alternatively, polymer chemistry and have a strong interest in working experimentally in a cross-disciplinary environment. Title

Development of a health and welfare monitor for pigs based on image and sound analysis

Project description and tasks

Measuring of animal-based variables can substantially contribute to health and welfare objectives that have been set by EU-legislation. Automated recording and processing of animal-based variables has a number of advantages. Important information about animal behaviour related to health and welfare such as sound can be measured automatically and consequently these measurements can be used in a real time detection of animal health and welfare problems.

This project aims at the development of a health and welfare monitor for pigs based on automatic detection of visual-auditive welfare related behaviour parameters. Vision and sound algorithms shall be used and further developed to calculate a limited number of characteristic parameters, such as animal position and movement, as well as sound intensity, duration and location. The dynamic variation of these parameters shall be related to specific behaviours, such as eating, drinking, resting, locomotion, social behaviour and sickness. The project includes also the detection and removal of background noise events in the recorded signals and aims at using information on the actual acoustic environment to improve the identification and detection accuracy.

Within this project, the candidate shall focus on the recording and analysis of sound information. The candidate will work in close collaboration with a PhD student, who focuses on the recording and analysis of image based data. The results of both, vision and sound oriented approaches, shall be combined and lead to the development of algorithms to automatically detect health and welfare problems in pig production.

The research will be conducted in a joint effort between the KU Leuven divisions M3-BIORES of the Faculty of Bio-Engineering and division PMA of the Faculty of Engineering. The work fits within a collaborative project with Ghent University.

Candidate profile

The candidate must have a master’s or equivalent degree in (bio, agricultural-) engineering (electrical, computer, civil, etc.), physics, mathematics or other relevant field.

The candidate should be willing to obtain a PhD degree in the field of bio-engineering. Reporting the project results in international peer reviewed journals is a major task.

The candidate must be able to speak and write English.

Working knowledge of MATLAB, experiences in sound analysis and/ or mathematical modelling is requested.

In today’s competitive environment, innovation and new products are
essential. Radical innovation is particularly key for the growth and
long term success of firms. So far, research on radical innovation in
marketing has mainly focused on examining the drivers of radical
innovation. In this project, using patent data, we plan to look at the
overall innovation portfolio including both radical and incremental to
determine the configurations that garner superior performance in various
competitive and market conditions. Certain theories indicate that in
fact a balance of radical and incremental innovation may provide the
greatest gains in performance and competitive advantage yet no research
has tested this notion. In addition, the way in which incremental and
radical innovation are linked and the role of marketing in this
interface have not been addressed in research. The research will
involve the analysis of data gathered from multiple sources including
CRSP and patent data bases. Extensive preparation of patent data will be
necessary to build the metrics required. Other primary data may also be
gathered through firm-level surveys as necessary.

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia Scholarships 2012-2013

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia announces a limited number of scholarships for the academic year 2012/13 (from 1. 10. 2012 until 30. 9. 2013) on the basis of bilateral agreement and reciprocity basis for the following countries:
Belgium – Flanders, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Japan, Macedonia, Mexico, Montenegro, Poland, PR of China, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Switzerland and Turkey.

The scholarships are open to foreign students who wish to come to Slovenia as an exchange student. The main purpose of the scholarship scheme is to support foreign students who wish to undertake a part of their study (undergraduate or postgraduate) on the individual basis under the supervision of Slovenian lecturer.
Study Period: The duration of an individual scholarship can be up to 10 months. Minimum duration is 3 months.
Fields of Study: The scholarship can be awarded for any field of study offered by the Slovene higher education institutions.
Student Status: The applicant must be enroled at the institution in their home country and come to Slovenia as an exchange student. Scholarships are not complementary: students can have only one scholarship, regardless of its source.
Study Level:  The scholarship cannot be awarded for a complete course of study leading to a degree. Neither can the scholarship be granted for any Slovene language course. Scholarship fees are not refundable through this scholarship. Possible exceptions must be determined in the bilateral agreement of the Republic of Slovenia with the concerned country.
Language of Instruction: The candidates should speak Slovene or the working language agreed upon with the mentor/supervisor.

The scholarship covers:

• accommodation in the facilities of the Student Centre of the Universities if the student requires it (paid for by the Ministry directly);
• basic medical insurance for time being in Slovenia as an exchange student and for non-EU students if there is no bilateral agreement on health insurance between the Republic of Slovenia and the applicant’s home country (paid for directly by the Ministry);

PhD Position in Bionanotechnology for Interactions for Biosensing at Radboud University

Brief description

A PhD position is immediately available in the fields of microRNA biology and bionanotechnology. MicroRNAs have been established as key regulators of protein expression and their aberrant regulation in humans is associated with many serious diseases. In this project you will push the detection limit of miRNAs for prediagnostic and diagnostic purposes using a multidisciplinary approach involving molecular biology/biochemistry, chemical biology and single-molecule techniques. As a PhD student, you will be part of a multidisciplinary and multinational team, working in a vibrant research environment. Your project is integrated in a programme in which 11 Dutch academic groups and two companies work together on key questions regarding bionanosensing technology and applications.

Post Doctoral Scholarship in Economics and/or Management Science

COHERE – Centre of Health Economics Research (Department of Business and Economics) at The University of Southern Denmark in Odense is advertising a Post Doctoral scholarship to be filled as soon as possible. The position is part of a research project entitled ‘Hospital of the Future’ funded by The Danish Strategic Research Council.

‘Hospital of the Future’
The project is concerned with development, adaption, and testing of methods from microeconomics and management science with the general aim of increasing hospital efficiency and effectiveness, for instance optimized patient pathways, capacity planning and utilization, and incentive schemes The project has three pillars, each consisting of a number of work packages, l. Logistics and production planning; 2. Incentives; and 3. Productivity measurement and economies of scale and scope.
It is an important objective to test the methods in close collaboration with clinicians and

PhD Program in Economics

Admission requires a master degree, preferably in economics, business administration, mathematics, statistics, physics or engineering. There are no fixed rules on who will be admitted but the admission is highly competitive. Evidence of creativity and commitment to research will be taken into consideration.

There is only one intake per year, in October. The deadline for applications is 31 March 2012.

What are the Awards

The Business Council of Manitoba represents the best of business leadership, working to make Manitoba an exciting place to live, and invest. The Business Council recognizes the potential in our Aboriginal community and offers financial support and employment opportunities to Aboriginal citizens who attend secondary institutions in our province through this award program.

The Business Council offers awards to assist with the cost of tuition, books and supplies during the academic year. Each award is up to a maximum of $3000 for university and $1500 for college students. All applicants are eligible to reapply each year of their of three years.

Recipients of the awards may be considered for summer and/or part-time employment with one of the Business Council’s member companies.

Newcastle University is delighted to announce 70 new Newcastle University International Postgraduate Scholarship (NUIPS) awards.
These International Studies are available for international students starting their studies in September 2012, in the 2012-13 academic year.
Each International Studies scholarship will have a value of £1,500 per year, payable towards tuition.
 
 

Eligibility For International Studies

You could be eligible to apply for a NUIPS award if:

• you have been offered an area on any postgraduate taught degree programme
• you have been assessed as international/overseas for fees functions
• you hold a primary category honours degree and IELTS 7.0. candidates holding an higher second (2:1) equivalent degree and IELTS 7.0 are going to be thought of on a competitive basis by the cut-off date for International Studies applications. candidates who don't hold a primary category or higher second honours degree at the time of their scholarship application are going to be thought of for NUIPS awards conditional upon their final degree grade.

PhD Scholarships Science – University in Prague

STARS is a program supporting talented PhD students at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. The aim of this program is to provide excellent education and an adequate income to PhD students of the Faculty. The STARS program wants to attract the best students from the Czech Republic as well as from abroad.

Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague, is a top-quality centre of research in natural sciences. We are proud of our rich history and the number of famous scientists who have worked here (including the Nobel prize laureates Einstein and Heyrovsky). The Faculty takes care about its future as well, however, and that’s why the STARS program was born. Come to Prague and become the future of our Faculty!
Can I apply?
The STARS program is open to all applicants who hold a master‘s degree or equivalent in sciences, medicine, pharmacology and a related field of study. It is also open to students who are in the last year of their studies and will be able to present their degree diploma at the beginning of their PhD.
The candidate should be proficient in English; however, no formal English exam (such as TOEFL) is required.
How can I apply?
This year, we offer 30 PhD projects. You can choose up to three projects for which you can then apply through an online application form.
How are candidates selected?
The program is competitive. The supervisors of the individual PhD projects will shortlist eligible applicants, who will then be invited for an interview to be held during the month of March. The exact interview dates will be agreed upon between the supervisors and the candidates. Based on the interviews, the applicants to whom the scholarship will be offered will be selected in the beginning of April.
What do we offer?
All PhD students receive a state-guaranteed scholarship of 6050 Czech crowns per month in their first year of study; the scholarship increases slightly over the course of 4 years for which it is granted.
In addition to the state scholarship, the STARS program students will also be granted the STARS-scholarship of at least 10 000 CZK per month. Their net income will therofore be at least 16 050 CZK per month (~650 Euro). The remuneration may be further augmented by the project supervisor.
The PhD students accepted for the STARS program will work on the selected scientific project under the guidance of the supervisor. Besides, they will be offered cutting-edge methodological courses and soft skills training (e.g. academic writing, presentation skills). The STARS students may also participate in teaching bachelor and master students of the Faculty.
What else?
All Charles University students (including STARS students) are eligible for subsidized accommodation in university dormitories and meals in university cafeterias.

Top-Up Scholarships for Graduate Research Students – The Centre for Energy-Efficient Telecommunications

CEET are currently offereing Top-Up Scholarships for graduate research students undertaking research within CEET.
CEET Top-Up Scholarships are available for graduate research students who receive or will receive an eligible primary scholarship* for study in 2012 and who undertake a research project within CEET. Graduate students who enrolled prior to 2012 are eligible to apply, however the Top-Up Scholarships will not apply retrospectively and will only be funded for the remainder of the duration of the eligible primary scholarship.

CEET Top-Up Scholarships are at a level of $5,000 p.a. renewable for the duration of the primary scholarship, and subject to an annual review of research progress.
Successful applicants will focus on research into energy-efficient telecommunications that are part of the CEET research program
Successful applicants will be associated with CEET for the duration of their candidature funding. Successful applicants will be expected to participate in CEET activities and will be required to provide regular progress reports. There may be some restrictions on IP subject to the nature of the research and how this relates to the IP ownership arrangements in CEET.

Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme (LExS)

For excellent Non-EU/EEA students enrolling in a Leiden University master’s degree programme and for excellent students from all nationalities enrolling in a Master of Law Advanced Programme or MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy.

For whom?
* Non-EU/EEA students enrolling in a Leiden University master’s degree programme starting September 2012 or February 2013 ( All MA, MSc and LL.M programmes as mentioned on the website Master’s programmes in Leiden).
* All nationalities enrolling in the following programmes starting September 2012 or February 2013:

1. Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Air and Space Law
2. Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in European and International Business Law
3. Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in International Tax Law
4. Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Public International Law
5. MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy

Scholarship Amount:

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme has 5 awards:

Platinum	Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee* and an allowance of €10,000 for living costs
Gold	Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee*
Silver	Covers 75% of the tuition fee
Bronze	Covers 50% of the tuition fee
Ivory	Covers 25 % of the tuition fee

The number and type of award of the scholarship depends on the budget available for each Faculty department. The type of award has no reflection on the students’ academic level of excellence.

* The tuition fee will be reduced to the amount of the home fee. Students who have been awarded a Platinum or Gold award still have to pay the home fee themselves.

To apply for the scholarship, you should write a letter of motivation (in Word) of a maximum of 500 words, in which you indicate why you believe you should be considered for this scholarship. The Word document should then be attached on thescholarship page in your online application for the master’s programmes for which you are applying.
